How We Use Morning Menus

What Even Are Morning Menus?

Ever since I started homeshooling my boys I was on the look out for a great resource to start the day. This summer I finally stumbled across morning menus in the homeschool community. What are morning menus? It’s kind of like calendar and circle time in schools mixed with areas of practice that may need some extra attention. For example: our morning menus have a page to circle the day of the week, month, and write in the date and year. They both also include name writing practice, skip counting, and other hand writing practices. You can adjust it per the needs of each kid.

Menu Front: Daily Checklist

On the front over of our menus we have a daily checklist. The checklist or schedule was a template made from thedeliberateday.org you can purchase the same template and make it your own with Canva. This gives the boys a clear expectation of what the day will entail. It does allow them to go at their own pace and in an order of their choosing.

The Inside of Our Menus

The pages I have saved on Pinterest for inside our morning menus

Inside our menus we have daily calendar and handwriting practice. What I love about using menus is it’s customizable. The worksheets inside can be updated as the skills are mastered. I also love you can theme it for seasons and holidays. Overall I like it’s reusable so you’re not throwing out pages daily and you can keep it interesting by chaining it up from time to time.

How I put them together

I found the menus on Amazon. I got them in a 2-pack. You can click the link on Amazon and be directed to the ones I purchased or if looking for your own just make sure they will hold 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper. You don’t have to actually have menus for this to work, you can use a binder and page protectors or laminate your pages and clip them together. I have found the menus are the best option for the dry erase markers.

I hope this gave you some kind of inspiration, I’d love to know if you gave it a try and what you think of it. I’m also here to answer questions about what we use in our menus. You can leave a comment here or find me on Instagram.
